Remove orphaned Exchange 2007 Server from organization

Scenarios

Exchange 2007 server was not removed gracefully and unable to bring the server online.

How to delete a 2007 exchange server from a domain when it doesn’t exist anymore?

Resolution

Step 1: Please make sure you take valid System backup from a domain controller (PDC is preferable)

Step 2: Login to DC which holds Global catalog

Open AdsiEdit console by Run -> Adsiedit.msc

Select the Configuration container and browse to the below path.

CN=Configuration, DC=Domain_Name,DC=com

CN=Services

CN=Microsoft Exchange

CN=Your_Organization_Name

CN=Administrative Groups

CN=Exchange Administrative Group < Guid >

Note : The Exchange 2007 administrative group is called Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT).

CN=Servers Right-click the Exchange Server 2007 server object, and then click Delete.

Click yes in every Adsiedit dialog box that prompts you to confirm the deletion
